Defence & Diplomacy: Pak-India Break Dialog Deadlock

The Heart of Asia Conference hosted by Pakistan and Afghanistan jointly at Islamabad provided the opportunity for Indian External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj to visit Pakistan and hold talks with Mian Nawaz Sharif and Sartaj Aziz. Her visit was enabled by the meeting between Narendra Modi and Mian Nawaz Sharif at the sidelines of the Paris Talks on Global warming, followed by a meeting between the National Security Advisers at Bangkok.
The joint declaration following the meetings between the Indian EAM and Pakistani Adviser on Foreign Affairs announced the resumption of the Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue Process between Pakistan and India to discuss all outstanding issues.
It is a welcome step and the modalities of future discourse will be charted out between the Foreign Secretaries of both countries.
Amb. Ashraf Jehangir Qazi, who returned this week from a session of Heart of of Asia Conference in New Delhi, and has served as Pakistan's High Commissioner to India for five tumultous years (1997-2002) sheds light on the thorny issues facing Pakistan and India as well as the Afghan Pakistan equation and what the future foretells.
