Can energy-hungry South Africa reduce its massive carbon footprint?

South Africa is taking a hard line at the COP21. It's pushing for richer countries to foot the bill for the damage suffered by poorer countries as a result of global warming. A bold stance, particularly as the country is itself a high carbon emitter, the 13th largest greenhouse gas emitter worldwide. About 85% of South Africa's electricity comes from coal factory and while coal is set to remain the main energy source for decades to come, Pretoria wants to diversify its energy mix.
