Stone Temple Pilots lead singer Scott Weiland dies: Animated Tribute

BLOOMINGTON, MINNESOTA — Scott Weiland, former lead singer of rock bands Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, was found dead inside his tour bus in Bloomington Minnesota at 9 p.m on Thursday night. He was due to perform a show there with his solo band, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts.

As lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots, Weiland led one of the most important bands in the 90’s grunge scene in the US. However, Weiland’s struggles with drug addiction shadowed the band’s success until they eventually broke up in the early 2000s.

In 2003, Weiland joined several former members of Guns N’ Roses to form Velvet Revolver. The band likewise enjoyed commercial success until parting with Weiland.

After a brief reunion with Stone Temple Pilots in the 2010s, Weiland focused solely on his solo band, with which he was touring this week when he died.
