Kidnapped Ohio girl missing for 3 weeks rescued from online predator's house in Missouri

MARTHASVILLE, MISSOURI — Police in Missouri and Ohio say a 15-year-old girl who disappeared from her family's home in the Cleveland suburb of Brooklyn a month ago was rescued on Tuesday from the home of 41-year-old man in eastern Missouri.

Marthasville Missouri resident Christopher Schroeder has been charged with transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, statutory rape, and production of child pornography.
Schroeder first communicated with the girl over the messaging app Kik. Police say the girl said she wasn't happy at home, and Schroeder offered to pick her up and help her. On November 8, the girl told her family she was going outside to walk the dog, but in fact she got into Schroeder's car, and they drove away.

Schroeder drove her back to Missouri, ordering her to take the SIM card and battery out of her phone and destroy them along the way. Even though the girl told Schroeder she was only 15, Schroeder ordered her to change her appearance, clean his house and have sex with him.

When she said she wanted to leave, Schroeder forbade it. The girl said she was afraid to run because Schroeder had guns in the house. Finally, a police task force was able to locate the teen using a fake Facebook profile, then they served a warrant on Schroeder's Missouri property.

Inside they found the girl and a bedroom rigged with video cameras. They also found videos of Schroeder abusing the minor on his DVR. Christopher Schroeder faces 15 years to life in prison if convicted on state and federal charges.

When the girl first disappeared in November, her family thought she had run away. Actor Nicholas Cage helped to promote the search to find her, as did the three Cleveland women who were held captive for a decade by predator Ariel Castro.
