Peru: Faced with Gov't Inaction, Health Workers' Strike Radicalizes

Peruvian health sector administrative employees continue their indefinite strike, as authorities have failed to respond to their demands. Among other issues, the strikers demand that 15,000 long-standing "temporary" employees receive workplace benefits. The government claims it is not financially possible to attend to the strikers' demands and have a balanced budget. The opposition says the budget favors business and mining interests and not the needs of the population. Without a solution, workers say their struggle will further radicalize.
