For many, middle age is a time when health woes begin to pop up, but, according to a recent study, being fit early on could help keep some of them at bay.
A decades-long research effort showed that participants who exhibited greater fitness in their younger years were less apt to suffer from or succumb to strokes and heart attacks later on.
Throughout 1985 and 1986, the fitness levels of roughly 4,800 people between the ages of 18 and 30 were assessed using a rigorous treadmill endurance test.
They were also subjected to blood pressure screenings, blood sugar readings, and weigh-ins.
