Whitney’s hat trick leads Sound Tigers past Wolf Pack on Throwback Night

He had gone nine games without a goal, so Saturday morning, Joe Whitney decided he was going to shoot more.
His five shots produced three goals Saturday night in a 5-2 Bridgeport Sound Tigers win over the Hartford Wolf Pack at Webster Bank Arena .
Whitney took three shots in the second period, and one went in, walking the puck to the high slot on the power play and firing a wrister over Mackenzie Skapski's blocker.
He took two more shots in the third, and both went in, one left all alone in front on a quick transition play, one through traffic from the top of the slot just as a power play expired with 1:08 left in the game.
After Wednesday's loss in Albany against Whitney's former team, the Devils, coach Brent Thompson wanted the Sound Tigers to trust their shots.
Whitney's first gave the Sound Tigers a 2-1 lead, after Hartford's Luke Adam and Bridgeport's James Wright traded first-period goals 15 seconds apart.
