LUCAS, OHIO — An Ohio family is mourning the loss of a pet they describe as 'family member' this week after Sheriff's deputies mistakenly entered their home and killed their 9-month-old dog.

According to Fox 8, Tiffany McGregor received a call from deputies Tuesday morning requesting access to her home. Police said they'd traced a call to the address from someone trying to commit suicide using a telephone wire, reported Newsnet5 Cleveland. McGregor agreed to let them into her home and explained her dog, a 9-month old Mastiff-Rottweiler named Zeus was also inside.

The responding officers entered the home through an unlocked side entrance, reported Newsnet5 Cleveland. Fearing the dog may be aggressive, they entered with a taser drawn. Fox 8 reports that once inside Zeus charged at a male officer, who fired three shots and killed the canine.

The McGregor family are planning legal action against the police. There is no reports on the status of the suicidal woman.
