Thirteen years after Bali bombings, tourists return but painful memories remain
  • 8 years ago
On October 12, 2002, Indonesia was hit by mass terrorism. A twin bombing targeted a bar and nightclub on the island of Bali. A total of 202 people lost their lives, most of them tourists, and hundreds more were injured. The attack was led by a commando of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), linked to al Qaeda.
Thirteen years on, Bali has regained its serenity and tourists have returned. But behind the paradise of the island and the smiles of the Indonesian people, memories remain of a night that left behind a deep trauma and many unanswered questions.
