While Thanksgiving is generally attributed to a tradition begun by the Pilgrims in Massachusetts, some historians argue that the first such event was held by Spanish colonists with the Timucua tribe 56 years earlier.

The tradition of Thanksgiving is often believed to have started in 1621 as a shared meal between the pilgrims and Native Americans in Massachusetts.
