Every year, the President of the United States saves a turkey from becoming dinner, and many assume the pardon guarantees the lucky bird a long and carefree life. Unfortunately, the situation is not that rosy.

Every year, the President of the United States saves a turkey (or two) from becoming dinner, and many assume the pardon guarantees the lucky bird a long and carefree life.
Unfortunately, the situation is not that rosy, according to CNN. 
Though the feathered one is spared from likely death that day, the grim reaper typically comes calling not long after.
Once the birds are moved to a Virginia farm that keeps the pardoned few, their health tends to begin failing.
