E-cigarette breaks man's neck and teeth in vape explosion

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO — A man in Colorado Springs was left in critical condition after his e-cigarette exploded in his face, Fox 13 reported. According to WMCA, Cordero Caples, 29, was having a vape break at work on Friday, when his vaporizer blew up. He was taken to Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Electronic cigarettes have been known to explode if the strength of the battery doesn't match the coil that heats up to vaporize the liquid, and it seems that's just what happened to Caples. His e-cig malfunctioned, and exploded breaking his teeth, and fracturing his face and vertebrae. He had spinal surgery on Sunday and is reportedly feeling better. A GoFundMe page was started by his sister to help with medical expenses. E-cigarettes have several parts, which are sometimes sold separately, and if the user isn't savvy, it could spell trouble. According to New York Daily News, Caples was using a Chinese made Kangertech vaporizer. A smoke shop employee in Memphis told Fox 13 News that the battery he was using was too hot for the rest of his rig, which may have caused the accident.
