IRVING, TEXAS — The family of 14-year-old “Clock Kid” Ahmed Mohamed who got arrested for bringing a homemade clock to school is now seeking $15 millions in compensation from the City of Irving and Irving Independent School District.

On Monday, a lawyer representing the family issued letters to the City of Irving and the school district, demanding $10M and $5M compensation respectively for the September ordeal. The letters claim that the Ahmed and his family suffered “physical and mental anguish” over the incident. Written apologies were also demanded.

The incident made international headlines in September. Even President Obama tweeted about the “cool clock” and invited Ahmed to visit the White House. Qatar Foundation for Education also invited Ahmed to join their Science and Community Development. The Mohamed family was planning to move to Qatar.

If an agreement could not be reached, the law firm will take further action and file a civil rights lawsuit.
