Joy Division est un groupe new wave anglais de quatre membres, formé en 1977 à Manchester, inscrit dans la mouvance post-punk et initiateur de la cold wave. Groupe visionnaire et précurseur, ayant défriché de nouveaux territoires, il se dissout en mai 1980 après le suicide de son chanteur, Ian Curtis.
Les trois membres restants du groupe ont formé New Order quelques mois plus tard. Des dizaines d'années après sa disparition, Joy Division reste une comète majeure du rock anglais par la puissance souterraine de sa musique, qui semble inaltérable, bien qu'aride.
