Georgia student criticizes Mizzou protests, gets fired from her job

STATESBORO / GEORGIA — The Wild Wings Cafe has fired a Georgia Southern University student from her job for criticizing on Facebook the Mizzou protesters and the Black Lives Matter movement. On November 14, Emily Faz wrote strong words against the protesters in response to their complaints that the terrorism attacks in Paris had "stole their headlines." She swore the protesters would "walk away with your tail tucked" if they ever bring their "BS" to Georgia Southern University. Her comments quickly went viral. Interim GSU president Jean Bartels said the ordeal "resulted in a call for disciplinary action against the speaker" and the school "takes threats very seriously." But she also emphasized the student's speech was protected by the First Amendment. Nevertheless, the First Amendment does not prevent Wild Wings Cafe from firing Faz from her waitressing job. On her personal Facebook page, Faz said she left by mutual agreement with her employer to protect the safety of everyone.
