Colombia: As Peace Accord Nears, No Agreement on its Ratification
  • 8 years ago
Colombian peace talks are progressing and a final agreement might be reached before the March 23 deadline. But disagreements remain on how the agreement will be ratified. President Juan Manuel Santos and Congress favor a plebiscite while the FARC, which criticizes Colombian electoral processes as unfair and not transparent, is for a constituent assembly, to modify the constitution. The rebels also complain that the question of the ratification mechanism has not been discussed as part of the talks. Natalia Margarita reports from Bogota. teleSUR
