TEL AVIV — A total of five people have died on Thursday in two separate attacks in the West Bank and Tel Aviv carried out by two Palestinian men, according to Reuters.

In the attack in West Bank, a Palestinian drove near the Gush Etzion settlement bloc and opened fire at cars stuck in traffic, until his car slammed into another vehicle. He then exited the car and kept shooting until he was disarmed and arrested by Israelis soldiers, the Jerusalem Post reported.

The shooter was later identified as 24-year-old Mohammed Abdel Basset al-Kharoub from the West Bank village of Dir Smat near Hebron.

An American student, a Palestinian and an Israeli died in the attack.

The Israeli Government Press Office identified the American as 18-year-old Ezra Schwartz from Sharon, Massachusetts, Fox News reported. Schwartz was in Israel during his gap year on a program that brings young Jews to live in the country.

The same day, at the Panorama office building and shopping center in Tel Aviv, another Palestinian assaulted people engaged in mid-day prayers.

"In the middle of the prayers, suddenly we saw a man fall down wounded at the entrance to the synagogue and behind him a man with a knife who was trying to get inside," Shimon Vaknin, a witness, told the Times of Israel. "Someone shouted, 'There's a terrorist!'"

After killing two Israelis the man was pushed out of the room by other worshipers. One more person was injured before the man could be apprehended.

Thursday's attacks bring the number of Israelis killed to 16 over the past seven weeks. The number of Palestinians killed by Israeli fire in the same period of time is 82.
