Convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard, who has spent 30 years behind bars after being convicted of giving Israel thousands of classified documents, is due to be released Friday morning.
Israeli Education Minister Naftali Bennett said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed Israeli officials to keep low-key about Pollard's scheduled release.
According to the Israeli daily Haaretz , Israeli officials are concerned that a celebration by the government over his release might hurt efforts to persuade the American government to allow him to leave to Israel.
"Mr. Pollard understands that, as a condition of being permitted to move to Israel, he may need to renounce his American citizenship," said a letter written by US Reps.
