Transgender man gets pregnant, gives birth 10 years after hormone therapy

PHILADELPHIA — After 10 years of living as a man, Kayden Coleman, 29, found out he was pregnant with a baby girl back in 2013, the Daily Mirror reported.

According to a report by the New York Daily News, Coleman was getting ready for a double mastectomy, so he had to stop taking testosterone for six weeks. During that time he started to gain weight, and took a pregnancy test which revealed that he was 21 weeks pregnant. Coleman told the Daily Mirror: "I never thought about getting pregnant. Because of the male hormones, I didn't think it was a possibility. It was definitely a surprise."

He and his husband Elijah got married in July of 2013, when Coleman was pregnant, the Daily Mirror reported. The pregnancy forced him to come out as transgender to family and friends he hadn't told. After giving birth, Coleman suffered a year of postnatal depression. Now, their daughter is 22-months old and calls Kaden "Daddy" and Elijah "Poppy." They plan on telling their daughter about her unusual birth when she turns five-years-old.
