Texas teen commits suicide with venomous cobra, autopsy confirms

AUSTIN, TEXAS — The autopsy of a teenager who was found dead in his car last July found that he committed suicide using a venomous monocled cobra, KVUE reported.
Grant Thompson was found in cardiac arrest in a Lowe's parking lot inside of his SUV around 9:30 p.m. on July 16. The car door was open, and an empty container that held the cobra was inside of the car. He had several snake bites on his arms and Animal Rescue workers found a non-venomous snake, six tarantulas and a bullfrog inside of the vehicle. The cobra was missing, and the snake prompted a search that lasted a few days, before it was found dead on Interstate 35, not far from where Thompson was parked, according to reports by KVUE.
Autopsy results showed what "appeared to be intentional injection sites," along with marijuana and amphetamines that were found in Thompson's system at the time of death. The autopsy also mentioned that Thompson had a "history of suicidal ideation."
Thompson was an animal lover who worked at a pet store in Temple, Texas. Investigations couldn't determine why Thompson was in Austin, but he wrote a Facebook status just before his death that read: "I'm sorry."
