Honduras: Bill Proposes Mandatory Sex Education in School
  • 8 years ago
A new bill presented in the National Congress would make sex education mandatory in Honduran schools at all educational levels. At the time of the 2009 military coup, sex education was prohibited by the ultra-conservative forces that took control of the government. Women’s rights organizations and other human rights defenders have worked with lawmakers for two years on the preparation of the new law. High teen pregnancy rates in Honduras and a high rate of sexually transmitted diseases are two of the motives for promoting an open discussion of sexuality in the schools. Gerardo Torres reports from Central America for teleSUR.
