Astronomers have been finding loads of exoplanets far from Earth, but recently they came upon one that is close to home. At only 39-light-years-away, the rocky and pretty much completely uninhabitable orb is near enough for scientists to perform a number of studies.
They already know the planet they’ve named GJ 1132b is ridiculously hot, as in probably somewhere around the 500-degree Fahrenheit range.
Said Zachory Berta-Thompson, one of the researchers, “The temperature of the planet is about as hot as your oven will go, so it’s like burnt-cookie hot.”
