Colombia: Indigenous Leader Serves Sentence in Mother Nature
  • 8 years ago
Indigenous leader Feliciano Valencia, sentenced to 16 years in prison for allegedly kidnapping a member of the armed forces in 2008, has exchanged his conventional prison cell for reclusion in the heart of Mother Nature. Colombia’s Constitution guarantees indigenous justice with powers to try and punish crimes inside indigenous territory in keeping with age-old traditions. Valencia insists that his sentence is an abuse against the justice of native people. teleSUR
