Convicted Ohio killer captured after spending nearly four decades on the run

ST.PAUL, MINNESOTA — A convicted murderer who escaped an Ohio prison almost four decades ago while serving a life sentence has been captured by United States marshals on Thursday.

Oscar Juarez, now 66, escaped from his prison cell at Marion Correctional Institution in Marion, Ohio 37 years ago by leaving a dummy in his bed and sawing through the bars of his prison cell. He then cut a hole through the prison's outer fence.

Juarez used seven different aliases while on the run, and was arrested twice since his escape—in Texas as well as in California—but under a different identity. Reuters reports that one of his identities included Eleasor Morales Moreno.

Marshals arrested Juarez late Thursday at his apartment in St. Paul, Minnesota.

According to Reuters, Juarez was convicted of fatally shooting a man in 1975 and was one of Ohio's most wanted fugitives after his escape.
