Gangbanger surrenders after 5-hour long standoff with San Diego SWAT

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA — A man that opened fire at San Diego police officers from an apartment complex in Bankers Hill surrendered on Wednesday afternoon following a five-hour long standoff with SWAT team officers, police said.
San Diego police responded to a domestic violence call at an apartment complex at around 9:15 a.m., as they entered the apartment, shots were fired through one of the interior doors, almost hitting an officer, San Diego Police Department spokesman Lt. Scott Wahl said at a press conference.
At 10:15 a.m., the shooter, identified as 33-year-old Titus Colbert, continued to fire his high-powered rifle sporadically as police and SWAT team surrounded the complex. The Federal Aviation Administration ceased all flight operations in and out of San Diego International Airport for about a half-hour at 10:30 a.m. as the complex is located just under five miles away from the airport, FAA spokesman said. Departures later resumed but arrival flights were suspended.
Colbert is a documented gang member with a criminal record dating back to his teenage years, according to court documents. Colbert is the brother of Tecumseh Colbert, a convicted killer, who is currently on death row following two murders in 2004, reported NBC 7.
At one point, teargas was thrown into the building through the roof top hatches as well as being shot through the window, police said. Throughout the afternoon, negotiators tried to convince Colbert to surrender but he continued to open fire and refused to surrender.
After flashbangs were thrown in at 2:30 p.m., Colbert dropped the magazine and rifle out of a window and surrendered 10 minutes later. All restrictions at the airport were lifted by the FAA at around 2:35 p.m..
No one was injured during the incident.
