Fiat Chrysler to recall over 284,000 SUVs due to faulty airbags
  • 8 years ago
AUBURN HILLS, MICHIGAN — Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV announced it is recalling around 284,089 older-model sports utility vehicles in the United States due to inadvertent airbag deployment.

Fiat said affected SUVs, certain model-year 2003 Jeep Liberty SUVs and 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees, are not equipped with Takata Corp airbags.

The company said it will replace faulty occupant restraint control (ORC) modules, which determine the deployment of airbags, and front and side-impact sensors.

Fiat Chrysler said it was aware of seven injuries connected to the problem but no accidents.

Fiat announced it will also recall about 13,411 vehicles in Canada, 6,277 in Mexico and 48,212 outside of the NAFTA region because of similar problems.
