Giant inflatable pumpkin rips loose from tether to wreak havoc on Arizona city

PEORIA, ARIZONA — A 25-foot, 350-pound inflatable pumpkin made its mark on the city of Peoria, Arizona, breaking free of its tethers and rolling down the road just days before Halloween.

The pumpkin, an integral part of an annual display set up outside the Peoria sports complex, got loose from its shackles around 2:30pm on October 29th. It aimlessly careened through traffic for almost four miles, leaving bystanders confused and mesmerized along its path.

Rumbling out onto the street, it quickly caught the attention of drivers, who were forced to brake and swerve to avoid getting hit. At a major intersection, it bounced into a city traffic light, leaving it warped and malfunctioning for a few hours. But rather than inspire fear, it stirred up laughter when it passed the local high school, with teenagers taking video on their smartphones.

The pumpkin eventually manages to bound over a wall into a business parking lot, and roll into a nearby park, where it was captured and deflated by the team of event promoters who set it up initially. Strong winds were likely the culprit in this case, and No injuries have been reported. While an investigation is currently being conducted, police officials do not suspect any foul play at this time.
