'Sinful' teen son beaten to death by religious parents at New York cult-Church

NEW HARTFORD, NEW YORK — One teen has been declared dead while another was close to death after a brutal beating in an upstate New York Church known for its secretive, cult-like activities.
The Word of Life Church in New Hartford, New York became the scene of a fatal beating on Monday afternoon after two teen brothers were reportedly assaulted by their parents as well as four other members of the church during a church "counseling session." Police later said in a news conference that members hoped the brothers would confess to their "sins" during the counseling session.
Nineteen-year-old Lucas and his 17-year-old brother, Christopher, suffered blunt-force injuries to their abdomens, genitals, backs and thighs and Lucas was eventually taken to the hospital by family members. Once there, they reported that the teen had been shot rather than confess to the beating.
After Lucas died at the hospital later that afternoon, police rushed to the scene of the crime. Police found the second victim inside the church and also removed seven other children, aged 2 to 15, from the church.
Several church members have been arrested in connection with this case. Two members involved with the fatal beating of Lucas have been charged with manslaughter while four others have been charged with second-degree assault.
