The Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, one of the most important human rights organizations in Argentina, just celebrated their 38th anniversary. President Estela de Carlotto expressed their appreciation for the support they received from both the Nestor Kirchner and Cristina Fernandez administrations in the search for their grandchildren forcibly disappeared during Argentina’s last military dictatorship. The grandmothers have helped to identify 117 people kidnapped as children or born in custody, and are looking for 400 more who were illegally adopted. They represent a milestone in Argentine history.
