Honduras: Peasants Forcibly Removed from Biosphere Reserve

The Honduran Army has begun evicting hundreds of campesinos from the Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve. The forest is considered Central America’s “Amazon,” and was put on UNESCO’s World Heritage list in 1980. The area has lost 36,000 hectares of forest land in the last five years. The peasants say they have nowhere else to go. Eight people wre arrested in a recent raid. teleSUR
