After a Monday ambush that left twelve soldiers dead and six missing, President Juan Manuel Santos called an extraordinary meeting of his National Security Council. Defense Minister Luis Carlos Villegas accused the National Liberation Army (ELN) of kidnapping two soldiers during an attack on a military convoy transporting voting ballots from last Sunday’s elections in the remote indigenous Arauca region. The ELN has been engaged in exploratory peace talks with the government for the last three years. teleSUR
