Elephants are classified into the South African elephant, Sumatran elephant, Borneo elephant, Sri Lankan elephant and the Asian indian elephant. African bush elephants and African forest elephants are different species. Elephants are herbivorous animals and they are scattered throughout sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.
Male African bull elephants are the largest animals on earth, some of them are endangered species due to ivory trade. Wild elephants can be seen in zoo, savannahs, forests, deserts and marshes.Young elephants are known as calves and female are known as cows. Male elephants are known as bull elephant.
There are lot of elephants in India, Sri Lanka, south africa, Malaya, Namibia, Thailand, Botswana, Kenya, kerala, eastern Africa,southern Africa,western Africa, Zambia, Mozambique and Angola national parks. Wild Elephants can exhibit aggressive and violent behaviour during musth and engage in destructive actions against humans, cars, truck etc. Indian wild Elephants killed around 300 people in kerala, assam and jharkand last year . Indian kerala Temple elephants are a type of captive elephant. The largest elephant farm in India is in the temple of Guruvayur thrissur kerala India. Wild elephants are held in captivity in many districts of Kerala, India. Indian elephants are held in different types of captivity like in zoos, circuses, Indian temples, tourism in India etc. Major temples in kerala districts like wayanad, kottayam, thrissur, palakkad, kollam, kasargod, Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, Alappuzha,Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, kannur and Kozhikode own female and male elephants caught from Indian forests. Many Baby elephants (Calves) in Indian, african and Asian forest are attacked by lions, tigers, hyenas, wild dogs, Rhinoceros, hippo and crocodiles so they are becoming extinct every year.
