Orphaned Chimp Adopted By Expectant Mother Chimpanzee In Australian Zoo
  • 9 years ago
It's “unheard of” for a mother so close to childbirth to adopt an infant. But one chimpanzee in Australia doesn't care much for what humans have heard.

Chimpanzees are known for their sociability and intelligence.

But one mother's adoption of an orphaned infant is nothing short of a miracle.
Baby Boon was born just days ago at the Monarto Zoo in Australia. His mother, Soona, died just after childbirth.
Boon was initially cared for by a male named Gombe but was quickly taken on by Zombi, an expectant mother.
Zombi was a dutiful friend to Soona, staying by her side until she passed away.
And remarkably, she’s just weeks away from giving birth herself.
