The new President of Guatemala, Alejando Maldonado Aguirre, announced an end to the rescue efforts in the village on the outskirts of Guatemala City, El Cambray, that was devastated by a mudslide almost two weeks ago. He said that a subsidy will be given to the victims. As many as 400 survivors are living in shelters, and at least 70 homes were completely destroyed. According to the Director of the Disaster Coordination Agency (Conred), Alejandro Maldonado Lutomirsky (the President’s son), around 3,000 people in Guatemala City live in high risk areas. teleSUR
