NASA: Evidence Points To Ancient Lakes On Mars
  • 9 years ago
NASA’s Curiosity rover team recently published a study which suggests that Mars had lakes billions of years ago.

Mars may be largely dry and inhospitable now, but based on evidence, there was a time when it may have been a lot more like present-day Earth.
NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory/Curiosity team recently published a study which posits that "at some point between about 3.8 to 3.3 billion years ago," the red planet had lakes and rivers.
They also determined that these liquid features were responsible for moving around a great deal of sediment, particularly what now comprises the lower layers of Mount Sharp.
Prior to Curiosity landing on and tirelessly exploring Mars, opinions were split on how Gale Crater, home of the mountain, ended up filled with layers of sediment.
