Paraguay: Household Workers Demand Equal Rights
  • 9 years ago
Organizations of domestic workers in Paraguay rallied on Wednesday to demand the formal proclamation of the Law on Domestic Work and Remuneration. The law would require that the workers be paid 60% of the minimum wage, a measure questioned by some lawmakers who claim that the middle class could not afford it. The household workers represent 7.2 % of the country’s workforce vow to continue to fight for a minimum wage and access to social security and retirement benefits. Workers in Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil, sent messages of support to the marchers. teleSUR
