NORTHFIELD, VERMONT-- At least seven people were injured when an Amtrak train derailed on Monday morning in Vermont after hitting rocks that had fallen onto the tracks.

The train had 98 passengers and four crew members on board when it derailed in Northfield, Vermont at about 10:30 a.m., NBC News reported.

The train apparently struck rocks that had fallen from a ledge above the train's path, causing five train cars to jump the tracks, NBC News reported.

"There is no reason at this time to believe that there was any negligence on anyone's part," NBC News quoted Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin as saying.

Authorities said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
