McLaren are masters at dragging out car launches, from spy shots released by the company to a myriad prototype and concept models. A few days ago we brought you news of an impending model that is due for debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. And now McLaren has given us some official info on the next member of the family.
The new 675LT looks to revive the legendary ‘Longtail’ name given to the McLaren F1 GTR racers. This new model will embody the racecar ethos with a focus on increased downforce, driver engagement, power and reduced weight.
675 denotes the power produced by the 675LT’s engine in PS (pferdestarke) the output equating to 497 kW. Power will be derived from the firm’s ubiquitous 3,8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. It will be offered in coupé bodystyle only when deliveries start later this year. McLaren are claiming “startling performance figures” from a car with an iconic name; though they have yet to announce any of these figures.
The Longtail name was given to the McLaren F1 GTR racers of the late 1990s. These cars were aero optimised and as such required a longer tail for improved top speed at the longer circuits.
