Georgia's only female death row inmate asks state to spare her life

Lawyers for the lone woman on Georgia's death row will ask the state's parole board on Tuesday, just hours before her scheduled execution, to reconsider commuting her sentence to life in prison.
Kelly Gissendaner, 47, is to be put to death by lethal injection at 7 p.m. EDT at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.
She is seeking a reprieve from the state's Board of Pardons and Paroles, which began meeting at 11 a.m. to decide whether its decision earlier this year to deny Gissendaner clemency should stand.
The inmate's lawyers are emphasizing Gissendaner's model behavior in prison and remorse for her role in plotting her husband's death in 1997, according to their application to the board.
