In the worst terrorist attack since the 1998 bombing of the United States Embassy in Kenya, Somali militants attacked Garissa University College in north-eastern Kenya killing 147 students. The Somalia-based militant group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack which shot non-Muslim students to death. Later, 4 attackers were killed in the ensuing encounter that lasted for around 16 hours in the night. More than 500 students have been evacuated with 79 of them injured.
