Brette Harrington's Free Solo Summit In The Fitz Roy Massif |...
Free soloing is far from being a widely practiced aspect of climbing and the number of climbers who could be described as 'soloists' is pretty small. The number of people who can claim to have soloed a Patagonian peak is even smaller; and that's not just because of the region's notoriously bad weather. Earlier this year, Squamish-based climber Brette Harrington wrote her name into the history books when she free climbed 'Chiaro di Luna' (5.11a) becoming the first woman ever not just to free solo this route, but to free solo any route in the Fitz Roy Massif. We were lucky enough to grab a word with Brette at the 2015 Arc'teryx Alpine Academy where we found out more about this astonishing ascent.
