Former ECB chief Trichet: Reforms 'long overdue' in Greece

Jean-Claude Trichet, former president of the European Central Bank and now Chairman of the Group of Thirty, gives us his take on the situation in Greece just before the general election. It's the third time Greeks are casting ballots in less than nine months. What's on the horizon for Syriza and indeed Greece now, and what impact might the elections there have on the rest of Europe?
Whichever party wins the election, "difficult reforms" are "long overdue" in Greece, Jean-Claude Trichet says. "The problem is that the state in Greece doesn’t function correctly, and this is the diagnosis of all observers", he explains. "We have to progressively rebuild a real administration, a real Inland Revenue, a real taxation administration... The example which is given very often is that you do not have a correct land register in the country".
