On Friday, Jamie Ellison left home and when he returned he found emergency workers in his driveway tending to the young child.
Area police launched an investigation to find the person responsible, and Ellison issued a plea for additional help on Facebook.
Authorities located and reviewed surveillance camera footage showing that the individual responsible was Ellison himself.
The father has since said, "That guilt will be with me forever."
