Pakatan leaders play down Karpal's threats

All top three Pakatan Rakyat leaders are trying to avoid directly addressing DAP chairperson Karpal Singh claims that his party would leave the coalition if PAS implements hudud laws.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang reiterated his position that hudud applies only to Muslims and does not concern the DAP who are largely comprised of non-Muslims.

We want Umno to answer, not Karpal. Is Umno prepared? Umno consist of a religious bureau (so they) should answer, said Abdul Hadi.

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim said that PAS does not have an intention to introduce legislations that would affect the rights of non-Muslims and he respected Karpals views.

I have discussed the matter with him. I told him that he had every right to express himself but I said that the issue has to be discussed at the correct forum.

Unlike the Barisan Nasional tradition, we will allow for issues to be raised, said Anwar, who together with Abdul Hadi held a joint press conference after receiving a memorandum from the Movement Against the Teaching of Science and Mathematics in English (GMP).
