Sam Smith wrote his James Bond theme in 20 minutes; plus the latest on Amy Poehler and Oscar buzz
  • 9 years ago
Did you hear that Sam Smith is singing the theme song to "Spectre," the next James Bond movie?
The Grammy winner later told the BBC how he got the gig: "I got called into the office with (producer) Barbara Broccoli and (director) Sam Mendes and they gave me the script.
... They said, 'Have a go at the song.'
It's the quickest I've ever written a song - it took 20 minutes ... and they loved it!"
Smith co-wrote the track, called "Writing's on the Wall," with Jimmy Napes, his partner on "Stay With Me" and other hits.
He recorded it back in January at Abbey Road, where Adele recorded the Oscar-winning "Skyfall" theme.
The song will be released Sept. 25.
The movie comes out Nov. 6.
