Biologist Wants To Protect Half The Planet For Biodiversity
  • 9 years ago
Internationally renowned biologist E.O. Wilson is currently writing a book proposing a Half-Earth solution where 50 percent of the planet would be under conservation protection to save biodiversity and head off a sixth mass extinction.

Could the world’s biodiversity be saved if half the planet were set aside as protected land?

A proposal for this concept called Half-Earth is being set forth by E.O. Wilson, an internationally renowned biologist who is expected to release a book on it next year.

He believes it is possible to increase environmental coverage from the current 10 percent to 50 percent on land and in the sea by connecting large reserves and integrating even small parcels.
