EU to propose binding migrant quotas on Wednesday

Claude Juncker is expected to put forward on Wednesday a proposal imposing a binding refugee quota system on all 28 EU member states, which German Chancellor Angela Merkel says would be a first step to forging a coherent European policy toward the migrant influx into the continent.
"We need binding quotas for refugees who have the right to asylum so they are fairly distributed according to strict principles among the member states," German Chancellor Angela Merkel said after meeting Sweden's Prime Minister Stefan Lofven.
Hungary, which has become a key point on the journey north for the migrants, with more than 150,000 people arriving this year, has been warned to expect an additional 40,000 migrants by the end of next week, the BBC reported.
