Dramatic footage of beachgoers attempting to save a great white shark that became beached in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, US on Sunday.

The video, captured by Stephen Werk, shows the shark in a dug trench with water being thrown over it to keep it alive.

The shark, despite their best efforts, is reported to have died on Wellfleet Beach.
