US anti-gay marriage clerk Kim Davis appeals jail ruling

An American county clerk who was jailed indefinitely for refusing to issue marriage licences to same-sex couples is appealing against her detention.
Kim Davis, a born-again Christian, was jailed for contempt of court last Thursday after claiming it was against her religious beliefs to give out the licences.
Mat Staver, her lawyer, lodged a three-page appeal against the judge's ruling.
He said: "While most Americans were enjoying the extended holiday weekend with family and friends, Kim Davis sits in isolation for the fourth day in jail.
We are working through the holiday to secure Kim's freedom.
She's not going to resign, she's not going to sacrifice her conscience."
