News is the next-gen Toyota Innova could well be on its way to India. Reports suggest that the car, which is pending its global debut in Thailand later this year, could hit the Indian shores as early as the first quarter of 2016.

Innova has always been extremely popular with the Indian masses. Probably keeping that in mind, Toyota Kirloskar Motors is planning to manufacture a whopping 90,000 units of the car in the first year itself. It’s certainly a gamble they are taking, but keeping in mind Innova’s past record, we say the gamble could well pay off.

As we speak, engines for the upcoming Innova are being built in Toyota’s engine plant at Jigani, Karnataka. The new Innova is going to be powered by a 2.4-liter diesel engine which currently powers the likes of 2016 Toyota Fortuner. The Innova could also feature an automatic transmission along with the diesel engine.
